The Trauma and
Loss Recovery Center offers services that help clients cope more
effectively after traumatic events
and losses. Sometimes
a loss can be traumatic. Not all losses occur from deaths, and those
losses that do not occur often need to be recognized and grieved.
Grieving is very individual. Our center recognizes individual differences
and will work
with each person as
their needs in coping and recovery are discovered.
Although post
traumatic stress symptoms can be severe, they often reflect a person's
normal reactions to an event or events that are unexpected, life
threatening or abnormal. Often, if the after- trauma symptoms are not
dealt with, they can linger or intensify and may even cause impairments in
the person's ability to function properly. Our goal is to decrease the
person's suffering and supportively encourage positive coping and life
functioning.
This center also
helps people and families who have experienced multiple losses or traumas
that have occurred closely together. When facing multiple losses, a
person can feel overwhelmed, not themselves, and victimized. Rebuilding
self-esteem and decreasing anxiety and depression are essential parts of
the recovery program. Occasionally a person can experience
complicated grief. When it occurs, the normal grief reaction can become
prolonged and more painful and the person may require guidance and support
in getting on with their life.
Depending on your need,
individual, couples, family or group counseling can be provided. Group
counseling can come after individual or family counseling and offers a
supportive environment to practice new skills and understandings.
