Salem-born Betty R. McCrary, Ph.D., received her Bachelor’s of Social Work at East Tennessee State University. She received her Master’s in Counseling and her Ph.D. in Family Studies at Virginia Tech. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and a certified Family and General Mediator for the Virginia Supreme Court.
Dr. McCrary has extensive experience in working with couples, children and families, and a vast knowledge regarding our court system. She is also experienced in working with the adoption process, family violence, and child abuse and neglect issues.
Of her many professional roles, she most enjoys being a Mediator. She believes that mediation empowers individuals to make the best decisions for the situation- whether it be a parenting plan after separation/divorce, an agreement to divide a business, or a settlement of a tree crossing property lines- whatever the issue. Mediation assists individuals with accepting consequences and responsibility for their decisions.
